Thanks. That was one of the best explainers I've ever read. I've been on Farcast for quite a while but missed all the excitement the past few days (and money) but not worried. Great platform and great future ahead.
I'm working on it. Like so many, I let the past couple of years throw me in 100 different directions and lately my effort has been focused on which ones are worth my time. I've got it narrowed down to Substack, Farcaster, and Discord for my socials. Also putting some time and effort into Lens with T2. The hard part is narrowing down projects and blockchains to pay attention to. For blockchain I'm leaning towards big 3 (BTC, ETH, SOL) and a my hopefuls (Lamina1, Cosmos ecosystem, SEI). Haha...that's TMI - sorry. Good to see you!
Yeah, focus is hard in this space, and it will get worse soon :)
Anyway, I think Farcaster and Lens are a great bet. Have you seen Aburra? It's how you can do spaces on Farcaster. Great app. But keeping Lens in play might be a good move, too. I was early on T2 and liked it, but it felt too complex and maybe not a great place for poetry. Will be looking at it again, soon.
Don't get me wrong, I love Substack, but if your audience is Web3, you should check out Paragraph. They're doing great things.
Our audience is a mixture of Web3 and not - so Substack seems to be the place, but love paragraph too. Might need to add it to the mix - along with Mirror...lol.
Get the Warpcast app and sign up. You need an email. Then you can use a phone number or pay $5 to not use one. It sets up an address for you. Very simple.
Hey Zen! Thanks for bringin the heat as usual to your substack posts! Love hearing your perspective about things, been following you since 2021!
I am a Designer that is trying to work more with web3 brands and companies mainly due to aligning on certain values, tech and goals. I would like to know if the 5$ for warpcast is worth it, I don't want to pay for a subscription that wouldn't add value to my profession and interactions with the web3 world.
It's 1000000% worth it. Probably the best $5 you can spend in web3 if you're trying to network and find work (especially since it's $5 for the whole year).
Hi, Zen! It's always a pleasure to read your well thought letter. I educate myself and become better at understanding web3 culture. Unfortunately I can't register at Farcaster to explore it due to financial problems 😅 but I hope one day it'll change 😊
Great article, Zen. Captures the current thing and what Farcaster is quite well. I've made the jump sometime next year, and never regretted it. It took a bit to get used to (no hashtags and channels), but now I simply can't go back to Twitter/X.
Oh, and if you are not a dev (like me) and wonder what the great thing is about frames: I have a newsletter on Paragraph. If I share a link to a post in a cast, it is presented in a frame. You can: read it inline (in the cast), you can subscribe, you can collect it )(crypto-micropayment), all in one click. The arrival of Frames has brought me tens of new subscribers in a few days, simply by sharing a link to a niche newsletter.
thank you sir! very much needed, well articulated, clear and concise explanation of farcaster. However, I am curious as to why i have a warpcast account but i did kot pay anything? Do i need to create a farcaster account also? thank you for this iluminating article!🔮💜
Warpcast is subsidizing the cost for a lot of people, there's about 20 countries in the world now where it's currently free to signup - so you probably live in one of those countries :)
Thanks so much for explaining! I was actually just writing in my newsletter this week how blockchain will truly allow the linking of identity in a post-platform world and then stumbled on farcaster today.
Appreciate the detail.
Does this mean that every app connected to with the farcaster wallet will display the entire history (storage capacity limited) of what has been cast? Ie, will pull the data across any and all future social networks?
Yes but very much storage capacity limited -- if the owner of the account stops paying for storage, eventually the messages will get deleted (i believe).
Thanks! I've been looking into a lot more over the last few days, I believe you are correct. The same is true if you hit your storage cap; starting with the oldest casts, they will be deleted in chronological order.
Do you know how this works since fc is a blockchain based system? It's not as though the casts get burned in the end, so is it merely that they are no longer referenced by the warpcast client, but remain tied to the ETH wallet of the account?
Thanks. That was one of the best explainers I've ever read. I've been on Farcast for quite a while but missed all the excitement the past few days (and money) but not worried. Great platform and great future ahead.
Glad to hear you liked it! Bright future indeed :)
Hey CD, good to see you. It's indeed great, you should hang out there more often.

Hey I'd like to try it out. Do you need an email address or wallet address or how do I go about that?
Good question, I thought I could message you on here but I think I would need an email address to send you a link :)

I can't seem to verify email for signing up. It keeps saying verification expired, just seconds after receiving verification mails.
Also, I'll love to be gifted a free year from you for using the platform. Thanks
Let me know your email address and i'll send you a link to give you a free year :)
okay thank you Zen sir

DCL, frame, and onchain is a game changer for social,
